World Chain of Light at Cooinda Retreats

Toc H South Australia Inc. gathered at Cooinda Retreats in Victor Harbor to hold a 24 hour World Chain of Light vigil. Candles were kept burning through the night, a steady glow of presence, memory and shared purpose.

The World Chain of Light has always been one of Toc H’s most enduring traditions. Around the world, members pause together, lighting candles as a simple but powerful sign of fellowship, service and hope. It is a reminder that Toc H is not confined to place or time, but connected through people who choose to stand with others.

Our Chaplain, Nathan Hodges, led the formal World Chain of Light ceremony with warmth and reflection, grounding the moment in both tradition and contemporary meaning. The vigil itself was thoughtfully prepared and guided by our Chair, Michael Thomas, whose care and attention ensured the space felt welcoming, reflective and true to the spirit of Toc H.

This year’s vigil carried added significance as Toc H South Australia marks 100 years of service. Holding the Chain of Light on this land, cared for by our members for generations, felt like a quiet but confident statement of continuity. Past, present and future meeting by candlelight.

We are grateful to everyone who took part, whether for an hour or through the night. In those small flames, we were reminded that Toc H’s light is still very much alive.
